The LS-65-GS is a 6-inch integrating sphere with a 1.5mm layer of BaSO4 coating pumped by a high-stability quartz lamp. The lamp is mounted in a housing which provides both shielding of the lamp to prevent stray light and heat sinking to protect the operator. Under the lamp housing is a micrometer-driven aperture controls the amount of light entering the sphere. The flux field at the exit port of the sphere is highly uniform and independent of the field of view. The exit port is approximately 45mm in diameter, and comes with a cover to avoid contamination of the coating when not in use.
The source lamp is a 30 watt quartz-halogen type with a rated life of 400 hours at 2856 Kelvins. By operating the lamp at 2856 Kelvin stability is significantly increased. The lamp is run at constant voltage to minimize the shift in color temperature as the lamp ages. The nominal output of the lamp will decrease with use; however, this does not impair the uniformity of the exiting flux because the stability resides in the sphere as an integrator, not in the presumed stability of the source lamp.
The LS-65-GS also incorporates an integrated DC power supply. This power supply produces a constant voltage and exceptional stability which makes the LS-65-GS a completely self contained light source. The output of the power supply is factory preset to obtain the specific correlated color temperature. This setting is typically 2856 Kelvins. Optional color filters and the included 2”X2” filter holder may be added to the exit port to produce higher correlated color temperatures.
